Diddiling About

Save the Date

I recently finished some Save the Dates modeled on vintage sheet music. Perfect for a pair of musicians tying the knot.

I also just finished up creating my yoga instructor's website. Unfortunately, being as she is in Chicago and me in Savannah, I can no longer go to Deeper into Yoga, but I highly suggest her to anyone in the Chicagoland area. I never realized how life changing yoga was until I took lessons with Valerie. I met her when she helped rehabilitate me after my foot surgery several years ago and continued yoga lessons with Valerie until the day I moved to Savannah.

J'ai fini mon foulard

I finally finished the clapotis! Amazing how grad school can cut into your knitting time.
I wasn't sure about the color when I first started knitting it, but I like the final outcome.

clapotis

That is a Virginia forest behind me. Being a city girl, I'm not really used to seeing a dense collection of trees. Forests kind of creep me out. But, I'll be in a city this afternoon - I'm jumping onto a plane to Miami in a few hours. I'm going to be there for a couple weeks hanging out with Milly, Ilya, the grandparents and studying (Oh yes, I need to do school work during the break). None the less, I'm hoping to get a few more knitting projects done.

TeacozyI've already started on the tea pot cozy. As you can see I finally decided on the colors Savannah and Glacier. The second knitting project is a request from my mother to make her a clapotis of her own. I'm going to use Lorna's Laces black purl and am currently waiting for the yarn to arrive. I have yet to find a knitting shop in Fairfax. Can anyone in the Virginia area suggest one?

Breakfast Perfection

Kitchen_1

A few months ago I was introduced to the yumminess that is steel cut oatmeal. While I absolutely love the stuff, I find the process of making it a chore and quite messy. Enter the genius of Posie. Follow her clever technique to create the perfect bowl of morning oatmeal.

(Tried this last night and it was quite yummy)
EASY TURKEY QUICHE
Serves 6

2 1/2 to 3 c. leftover stuffing or 1
pkg. (6 oz.) stuffing mix
1 c. chopped cooked turkey
1 c. shredded Swiss cheese
4 beaten eggs
1 (5 1/2 oz.) can evaporated milk
1/8 tsp. pepper

Press leftover stuffing or mix into 9 inch pie plate or quiche dish to form crust. Bake at 400 degrees for 10 minutes.

Combine meat and cheese. In another bowl, beat eggs, milk and pepper, sprinkle meat and cheese on baked crust. Pour egg milk mixture on top layer. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes in 350 degree oven, until center is set. Let stand for 10 minutes. Garnish with tomato wedges.

Brunch & the Bart

Sunday Brunch

I spent a wonderful Sunday in Staunton, Virginia beginning with brunch and ending with Shakespeare. We spent our late morning dining at The Pullman, an old train station refurbished into a restaurant. You can still watch the trains go by mere feet away from your table.

After walking about the town we headed into the Blackfriars Playhouse and watched The Tempest. I'm not a huge fan of Shakespeare, but I loved this performance. The theater in itself was amazing - it's the world's only re-creation of Shakespeare's original indoor theatre and they are in the process of building a reproduction of the Globe theater nearby.

All in all, a great start to my winter break.

Yummy Sweaters

Anthropologie

Im loving Anthropologie's Jackson Sweatshirt Jacket and Jabberwocky Cardigan. The Jackson style is my favorite out of the two though, since I could see myself wearing it everyday and it can be dressed up or down. Though, what is my deal with the color brown? It's been my favorite for clothing for years now. I figured I would have a new favorite clothing color by now.

Knitting Dreams

I have my last final today (yay for grad school), and with that, my mind wanders to the extra spare time I will have over winter break. With my clapotis almost finished, I'm thinking of the next knitting project (besides the tea cozy I have already started). Here are some of the contenders:

Skirt - Intolerable Cruelty
Mittens - Manly Mitts
Scarf - Exchequered

I'm leaning toward the mittens. I'm hoping if I start them this week I could get them done in time for them to be a Christmas present. Hmmm...

Other patterns I liked, but not for right now:
Hat - Sugar on Snow
Wrap Sweater - Ivy
Scarf - Wavy

All patterns from Knitty.
