This past weekend was my birthday, so why don't we flip though a LIFE issue from the day I was born in a year I wish I could travel back to?
Singer Swings Same Songs in Church and Nightclub, starts on pg 37. An article about Sister Rosetta Tharpe. The earliest footage I could find of Tharpe singing is from 1941. I know there is better footage of her from the 60s, but I wanted to have something that is as close as possible to the date of this issue.
Other interesting bits:
French Movie Stars Make Funny Faces, pg 4
What Germany is up to starts on pg 9.
The Corset steals the show in French fashion, pages 16 + 17.
Mae West on pg 21.
Boy howdy, new headlights. It's science! On pgs 60 + 61.
LIFE goes to Life camps, starts on pg 62.
