Chicago has been having some serious weather mood swings lately. Last week it switched from an unseasonable 61 degrees to a bone chilling 16 in one day. I will admit that the new snow was just lovely to tromp through while running errands two Saturdays ago. Oh, and who doesn't love warming up to a hot cocktail? Donovan treated herself to a Monkey's Uncle at Owen & Engine, which is a cocktail that consists of hot chocolate, amaretto, and Scotch. I must try to make this at home.
Above is our fancy new member badges for the Letter Writers Alliance. We decided to move away from the buttons to something more durable and snazzy looking. What is better is that thanks to the flatness of the patch, we can now ship memberships for a mere 66¢. I am so excited about this.
And, to leave on a cocktail to help warm you up, here is a new-to-me one. Two weeks ago we celebrated Scottish poet Robert Burn's birthday with a cocktail named after him. It is the "Robbie Burns" and like most good cocktails, can be made many ways. We opted for this recipe, though see what other recipes say in comparison to what is in your home bar.
Robbie Burns
1.5 oz Scotch (We used Red Label)
0.5 oz Sweet Vermouth
3 dashes Chartreuse
The peel of an orange or 1 dash orange bitters
Drink in good health!
