I need another hobby like a hole in the head...so it is no surprise that I picked one up last month. I took a weaving class at the Chicago School of Weaving and got hooked. I returned a few weeks ago with Donovan and all of the Grandma Club will be visiting soon.
I haven't taken one of the full-blown weaving classes, due to my schedule, but I have been going to the WeaveSpa. This class is 2 hours and the loom is already all set-up for you. You learn how to weave and leave with a complete piece at the end. I'm planning on gifting both of my items. The first piece is good for a table runner, but the second one makes for a great scarf. I can't wait to see what I make for my third sit down!
I'll report back with the Grandma Club makings, but if you are in Chicago and have been curious about weaving, I highly suggest you visit the Chicago Weaving School. So much fun, especially if you bring some friends. The owner, Natalie, also teaches basket weaving and has some really cool one-off classes. She just had one where you learn how to spin fiber into yarn and then weave that. I wish I was in town for that one, but she says she is planning on doing it again.
