Valentine (c. 1800) from FLP digital collections, item #frk00753f
This past weekend I taught a workshop at the West Town Library about folding your letters into interesting shapes. Letter origami, if you will. The inspiration for this workshop came from old valentines and love notes that were folded into shapes likes stars, purses, and hearts.
I found lovely examples of these types of folded letters in the digital archives of the Free Public Library of Philadelphia. They have a great collection of Fraktur, beautiful drawn documents made during th 1700s and 1800s by Pennsylvania Germans.
