Hands up, who here knows anything about the War of 1812? Not me. Well, what I know about it is all from a Canadian folk song; so I'm not certain that counts. The article on Beyond the Perf about this stamp refers to it as “the forgotten conflict” which seems apt.
Now, however, through the magic of stamps and wanting to know more about them, I know all about the Battle of Lake Erie in which Oliver Perry and the U.S. Navy fought the British on the lake. It is so weird to think about a battle being fought on a great lake. This year is the bicentennial of that fight, hence the stamp.
