Kerry Jeffery is the Postmaster of Cornelius, Oregon. Cornelius has 10,000 residents, six letter carriers and, until last fall, no city postcard.You know the kind I'm talking about; the "Visit Us in the Valley" or "Delightful in Dalewood" town promotional postcards which often feature local business or landmarks.
Postmaster Jeffery decided that was no good and designed one for Cornelius. Then, to promote his card, he started a blog. "Send us a postcard and we'll send you one" was the deal. He wasn't expecting the tremendous response. Nearly 500 people sent cards. One even arrived from the deserted island of Bouvetoya in the South Atlantic. {from OregonLive}
They exhibited the cards in the Post Office, strung together in paperclipped chains. On his blog, the Postmaster wrote:
"One of the great things about the postcard project has been getting to share it with people that are important to me. My Mom and Dad have always been great supporters of my projects in the Postal Service and it was great to have them out to Cornelius to see it. Dad got a kick out of the pieces from Texas."
Thanks for all the fun Postmaster! We'll be keeping an eye on you for the next exhibit. Keep us posted!
I was one of the lucky people who contributed to this exhibition and got one of the limited Art of the Postcard postcards. I wish more postmasters would engage the public like Kerry.
