Back in August, I got an email from L.W.A. member Kelly about a site she's putting together to make all the mailboxes in airports better known. Here's her story about it:
I asked my husband to mail something for me on his way through the Detroit airport.
He said, "How do you know there’s a
mailbox there?"
I said, "It’s an airport. There’s a mailbox."
He said, "Okay. Where is it?"
I thought it would be as simple as looking at the Detroit airport website, but no such luck. Every restaurant, ATM, and toilet is listed, but not the mailbox. Even my friend Google came up empty handed.
The next time we were at the Detroit airport, I spotted the mailbox. I said, "There it is!" and then I thought, "Wouldn’t it be great to have a site where people could submit airport mailbox locations so that other mail-minded travelers could easily find mailboxes in airports around the world?"
And this is that site.
We here at L.W.A. headquarters really applaud efforts like these. She saw a need and didn't wait for someone else to do something about. She's doing it, right now! Go Kelly! She can't do it alone, though. Please send her your submissions of airport mailboxes and post offices to help the site become more comprehensive and any even greater reference for us all.
Done! I submitted Pittsburgh, which has an entire post office (beyond security) at its airport. Very happy that this site exists. I'll be in Philadelphia airport next week and noticed there is already a listing for the mailboxes there. I write lots of postcards while on airplanes. Now I know I can mail them in Philadelphia and won't have to carry them onto Boston.

I have been to more than one US airport whose workers insist that there is no post box (or post office) in it. Perhaps they are incorrect, but this seems to be a tradition that is dying out—at least in the States.
