A commenter named Christian posted a link on our article about tea postcards to these mailable Kit Kat packs in Japan. Playing on the brand name Kit Kat, which sounds like Japanese words "kitto katsu", translated as "surely win", Kit Kat Mail was launched as a specially-designed, ready-to-send package containing the snacks and space for a message. What started as a promotional piece during exam times became so popular that they have remained available at post offices in Japan as well as in regional flavors.
Domestically, the box cost about 140 yen to mail, and international EMS mail would cost about 1,200 yen. So I don't expect to get one, but if you live in Japan, what a cute, ready-made, good luck wish. The little commercial spot for it made me all tingly, which made me feel stupid, but, hey, I love the mail.
This is really cool - who doesn't love a Kit Kat in the post!
And on the subject of the Tea Postcards - they are brilliant! The people who run the company are lovely, happy to answer queries and super efficient. And the delivered product is just so gorgeously done! Would definitely recommend sending Postcard Tea!
