{Writing post cards in the Japanese Tea Garden in San Francisco, July 2010.}
Attention all West Coast members and letter-lovers; have you wanted to attend one of our famous typewriterful get-togethers but been thwarted by thousands of miles? Now is your chance! Kathy and I will be hosting a letter-writing social at Rare Device on Friday, July 8th from 3PM to 5PM. We'll have typewriters for you to use and a free stationery designed for the event. Stamps {including vintage stamps} will be for sale at face value if you'd like to mail your letter right there and then. If you'd like, you can even hand off your letter to us and we'll mail it for you from Chicago for some additional postmark fun. The event is free and open to members and non-members alike. We just ask that you come prepared to write some letters and have a good time.
-Kathy & Donovan

What fun. Marked my calendar & will be keeping my fingers crossed that I'll be able to make it into the city that day.

This sounds like big fun and its on my calendar! I send letters via the mail all the time. The poor post office is in peril and we need to rescue it!
What kind of typewriters will be there? I'm obsessed with IBM Selectric 2's. I want a refurbished one, badly.
I write with purple ink pens, exclusively. Thanks bunches!

What a lovely way to spend and afternoon, putting pen to paper, and stamp to envelope. Your gathering provided the impetus for me to send off long overdue letters of condolence and reconnection to correspondents from my past and friends in my present. Thanks so much for making this happen in such a pleasant and organic way. Also thanks to Rare Device for hosting!
