Reposted from my INtangible blog. The article also states that, sigh, "With online banking and e-mail, the only letters left in the big blue boxes are wedding invitations and the occasional birthday card from Grandma." Prove them wrong, people! Prove them wrong!
Closest mailbox to me is just a little less than a mile away... at the PO! I haven't seen the blue boxes anywhere else but the PO in years. Live in OK. Kinda sad...

I think there's a propaganda campaign going on at the P.O. because too many people mail tons of mail at our Park Row AND Cairn Way offices. I see people mailing tubs of packages and mail every day. Seems a lot of moms have home businesses in Katy. Scary numbers of packages and envelopes are sent overseas. Huge boxes go out. Mexico gets the bulk of what looks like foreign mail. A lot of immigrants keep our post office up and running. The lines are always too long. People always complain about long lines. The kiosks have lines that are just as long.
Don't get me started on the lack of mailboxes. There are waiting lists for p.o. boxes! Imagine that! I've had mine since January and it one of the very last ones in the building.
I just hope other post offices are being underestimated. There are too many people in the US who do not use the internet. I have around 50 relatives who still use snail mail for everything.
And what happens when the internet fails? Okay, I shut up now. :)

There's a little red postbox right outside my house. Even though there are only 12 houses in the hamlet I live in, someone posts something in there every day.
