Be still my heart. Last week, my inbox was flooded with suggestions that I share this article from The Japan Times. Japan is known for its themed cafes, but this one is the one for me. The shelves are lined with books and magazines on stationery. You can purchase stationery along with your food and drink. Seems pretty great, right? I mean, it's kind of surprising that it hasn't been done before now.
What's more (and this is the best part) is that you can become a member of the cafe. Membership comes with a discount on cafe items, but it also gives you a key. The key opens up the many drawers in desks around the cafe. The drawers are full of stationery items for members to use! This is awesome. If we ever have a physical space, this will definitely be a member perk for us too. I'm marking this down among the many reasons to go to Japan.
This is so cool !!!

YES! What a great get-together place this would be, too. And you could hide secret messages and packages in the drawers, have "geo-caching," and etc. Gosh, I wish we had this now!!!

I want to go into partnership with someone and start one!!! How totally amazing! I grew up in Japan as a little girl and always LOVED the stationery shops, particularly in or near the train stations! I had a scented eraser collection...oh the memories! Why do the Japanese "get it" yet here in the States, you can't even FIND stationery in stores?

Oh. WOW! I was just in Tokyo... If only I'd known!

This seems like the perfect sort of thing to try to set up at your local coffeehouse/cafe or used book shop. I know I'll be on the lookout for a little locking table at all the yard sales this summer!
