Released today as part of the Music Icons series, the U.S.P.S. honors Ray Charles with a stamp. The stamp art features an image taken by photographer Yves Carrère. Like all of the Music Icons series, the stamp sheet was designed to look like a vintage 45 rpm record sleeve. I really thought Ray Charles was still alive. I thought this was going to be a post about how he gets to be the first living person on a postage stamp, but no, he passed away in 2004. I guess I was living on a desert island at the time. There's more information about this stamp at Beyond the Perf.
He died while the film Ray, with Jamie Foxx, was filming. Love the stamp!
