I have been asked to give my opinion on the holiday called Halloween. I don't want to disappoint you, but I haven't given that day too much thought since I was alive. In those days, I would hand out candy to trick-or-treaters (usually Necco Wafers, occasionally root beer barrels). Although much of the imagery of Halloween involves ghosts, we generally can't participate in the day's activities, as we don't eat candy and can't dress up in costumes. Halloween isn't the same when you're a ghost, but we're happy to see your costumes, which can be very inventive!
Instead, ghosts prefer the Day of the Dead, or Día de Muertos, a Mexican holiday in which the living honor and remember their deceased loved ones. The holiday is celebrated in many places around the world on November 1 and 2, when the living create shrines decorated with marigolds, sugar skulls, and photos and favorite items of the deceased. With a little help from a living friend, I'm creating a special shrine for some departed folks you may recognize. You'll have to tune in to my blog on November 1 to see what I mean.
Best regards,
