The Krannert Art Museum in Champaign, Illinois is running an exhibit featuring famous mail artists from the 1950s as well as art created from the ephemera produced by this movement. I love the idea of someone making something from ephemera which itself is ephemera which is then used to make more somethings, probably also ephemerical. Within that statement is the great debate of the mail art world; when you remove something from the system of attrition by hanging it in a gallery or preserving it in an archive, are you also removing it from its very reason for having been deemed "worthy" of that preservation in the first place? Fun dinner table conversation if I ever saw it. The gallery show is going until January 5th, 2014. Thanks to member Emilie for the tip!
