The U.S.P.S. is promoting a consumer switch to a larger size standard mailbox. They've been trying them out with great success. The new 13" X 7" boxes can fit many of the standard size small and medium flat rate boxes delivered by the U.S.P.S. Everyone knows the package pick-up slip is a dreaded object, but a missing or damaged package is worse! My apartment only has a mail slot, but if I had one of the regular, shoe-box sized boxes, I'd definitely be interested in an upgrade. (Mind you, my box growing up was HUGE and attached to the end of some rusting farm equipment. It was a rural box and I definitely could have put my younger brother inside of it if I had tried. Not that I did. Shut up. You'll get me in trouble. My mom reads this blog. Hi Mom.)
Yes, yes! My husband is a mail carrier and always says he'd rather folks get a bigger mail box than give him a gift/tip at the holidays. A bigger mail box is the gift that keeps on giving to your mail carrier because all year, it decreases the number of times he has to get out of his vehicle to walk up to a front door. And this really slows him down. This is especially handy in the snow, as well as for folks that get a lot of packages. Thanks for this reminder.

I think it would be great to get enough fun mail (no bills, please) to fill a bigger box! Think of all the letters it could hold.

I upgraded the house mail box to bin type one. You pull the bin door and drop the mail or small package. Then you close the bin door and down it goes. :)
