Member Lillian recently sent me a magazine article about the Kindred Spirit Mailbox located on Bird Island in North Carolina. The beach is home to a lone black mailbox with the words "Kindred Spirit" written on its sides. The box contains anonymous letters and journals, notes to the passerby; it stands as an invitation to sit and share thoughts and feelings with a fellow human. The importance of these communications goes so far as to have been credited with saving the island from development and its establishment as a nature preserve.
Have any members been to the mailbox? Do you know of any other public thought/feeling mailboxes around to share? Let us know in the comments! Thanks for the tip, Lillian!
That's such a cool idea! The funny thing is that if I was walking along the beach and saw it, I'd think "That's cool...", but then of course I wouldn't touch it because I'd assume it was someone's personal mailbox. LOL!
But now that we know... ;)

It's a bit like the one at Post Office Bay, Galapagos, where visitors can leave mail for any other visitor to deliver for them. It's been there since the 19th century when it was established by whalers.
