It has been over 10 years since the U.S.P.S. promoted their 30th anniversary Star Wars postage stamps by wrapping some blue mailboxes in vinyl to mimic the iconic look of R2D2. There were around 400 of the special boxes done back in 2007. Despite the vinyl being fairly fragile, there are still R2D2 boxes around today. L.W.A. member Amy P. sent in this photo of one she spotted recently near the Yale Campus. The URL on the boxes is no longer working, but the National Postal Museum has an informative page on the droid-styled boxes, including a video of the process of applying the vinyl. Have you spotted an R2D2 box near you? I wonder how many are still around. Thanks for the picture, Amy! Oh, and happy Star Wars Day everyone!
Very neat! I did not know about this!

My friends and I posed with and photographed all the ones in our area 10 years ago. None still have the wrap.
