I got a beautiful postcard from my pal Carol from the Florence Griswold Museum in Connecticut. It advertised the exhibit, Pen to Paper, "a selection from the Smithsonian’s Archives of American Art, reveals the beauty and intimacy of the craft of letter writing. From casually jotted notes to elaborately decorated epistles, Pen to Paper explores the handwriting of celebrated artists" through collection of artists' letters from the Smithsonian Archives of American Art. Unfortunately, her card arrived after the exhibit closed, but the exhibit travels around to other institutions. She sent me a follow-up posting that mentioned that it heads to Texas A&M next, although I was unable to find a mention of any details on the internet.
Luckily, the exhibit has a companion book. Indeed, it seems the book was produced in 2016. You can see a lot of the letters at the article on the book from the Smithsonian Archives of American Art. It seems like it would be a joy to have on any letter lover's shelf.
P.S. Postcard by Lenore Tawney, a groundbreaking fiber and collage artist, handcrafted a postcard in 1970.
Currently freaking out because I need to see this exhibit but I couldn't find any info either
