Totally agree. I have seen the impacts of this in my building, and impacts to the front desk staff, and USPS employees. I don't really understand why Sunday has to be a delivery day. The hidden costs of "free shipping" need to be revealed. Excellent post.

I'd really like to see a USPS that isn't crippled by artificially capped rates and the requirement to hold billions of dollars in funds for decades of retirement payments. Maybe they wouldn't be in a position where they feel that they need to let their people get steamrolled by Amazon in order to stay afloat.

Congress can be the greatest problem or greatest help for the USPS. We’ve seen the worst with the PAEA of 2006 (mentioned by Joe F). That piece of crippling legislation was passed by a voice vote by a lame duck Congress.

If only we could see the best from Congress which would include Postal banking. It would help the USPS and underserved Americans. Win-win if you are against privatization of the USPS, and helping people say cash checks and keep all their money (vs paycheck cash companies).

I suspect most readers here are USPS supporters. Right now there is a government department (maybe OBM) recommending privatization of our USPS.
